May 17th, 2025 22:34:01 EDT -0400 HVO Kilauea ORANGE/WATCH - Episode 22 of the Halema‘uma‘u eruption ended at 3:29 p.m. HST on May 16. The Halema‘uma‘u eruption is currently paused. May 17, 2025 20:27 - Activity Summary:Episode 22 ended at 03:29 p.m. HST on Friday, May 16, 2025 after 10 hours and 16 minutes of sustained fountaining from the north vent. The Halema‘uma‘u eruption is currently paused.Activity levels overnight were subdued with intermittent incandescence from the active north and south vents. Night-time incandescence from episode 22 lava deposits was visible near the active vent region and along the northern margin of Halema‘uma‘u crater. Kīlauea's current eruption in Halemaʻumaʻu crater within Kaluapele (the summit caldera) began on December 23, ... |
May 17th, 2025 22:34:01 EDT -0400 AVO Great Sitkin ORANGE/WATCH - Slow eruption of lava within the summit crater continues, accompanied by occasional small earthquakes. May 17, 2025 18:16 - Lava continues to erupt slowly in the summit crater of Great Sitkin Volcano, and small earthquakes continue at a low rate. No unusual activity was observed in satellite and webcam views of the volcano over the past day.The current eruption of Great Sitkin Volcano began with a single explosive event in May 2021. The ongoing eruption of lava at the summit began shortly afterward, in July 2021. The volcano is monitored using local seismic and infrasound sensors, satellite data and web cameras, and regional infrasound and lightning networks. |
May 17th, 2025 22:34:01 EDT -0400 AVO Spurr YELLOW/ADVISORY - Unrest persists at Mount Spurr. Seismicity remains elevated. May 17, 2025 18:16 - Unrest continues at Mount Spurr volcano. Small volcanic earthquakes were detected beneath the volcano over the past day. No noteworthy activity was observed in cloudy satellite or webcam views. Although low-level unrest continues, no changes have been observed in the monitoring data to indicate that the volcano is moving closer to an eruption. Based on previous eruptions, changes from current activity in the earthquakes, ground deformation, summit lake conditions, and fumarolic activity would be expected if magma began to move closer to the surface. Therefore, if an ... |
May 17th, 2025 22:34:01 EDT -0400 CVO Cascade Range GREEN/NORMAL - All volcanoes are at normal levels. May 16, 2025 17:34 - Activity Update: All volcanoes in the Cascade Range of Oregon and Washington are at normal background activity levels. These include Mount Baker, Glacier Peak, Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams in Washington State and Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, Three Sisters, Newberry, and Crater Lake in Oregon.Past Week Observations: Over the past week, small earthquakes were located at Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Hood. Monitoring data are consistent with background activity levels in the Cascade Range. Field crews conducted field work at Mount Adams. |
May 17th, 2025 22:34:01 EDT -0400 NMI Ahyi Seamount YELLOW/ADVISORY - Low-level unrest likely continues. May 15, 2025 19:25 - No activity has been observed by satellite or in remote hydrophone data this week. Plumes on the ocean's surface above Ahyi Seamount have been observed in satellite imagery sporadically since August 5, 2024, and could reappear at any timeThere are no local monitoring stations near Ahyi seamount, which limits our ability to detect and characterize volcanic unrest there. We will continue to monitor satellite and distant hydroacoustic data closely for additional evidence for, or escalation of, volcanic activity. |
May 17th, 2025 22:34:01 EDT -0400 CALVO GREEN/NORMAL - CA volcanoes were at normal background levels of seismicity and deformation during the past week. May 13, 2025 16:16 - Monitored CALIFORNIA VOLCANOESCurrent Volcano Alert Level: all NORMALCurrent Aviation Color Code: all GREENActivity Update: All volcanoes monitored by CalVO show normal background earthquake activity and deformation. Monitored volcanoes include Mount Shasta, Medicine Lake Volcano, Lassen Volcanic Center, Clear Lake Volcanic Field, Long Valley Volcanic Region, Coso Volcanic Field, Ubehebe Craters, and Salton Buttes.Past Week Observations for May 05 (0000h PDT) to May 11 (2359h PDT):Typical seismicity was recorded at The Geysers geothermal field south of the Clear Lake ... |
May 17th, 2025 22:34:01 EDT -0400 AVO Atka volcanic complex GREEN/NORMAL - No further exposlive activity observed. May 5, 2025 20:00 - No further explosive activity has been detected at the Atka volcanic complex since the small explosive event at 10:34 AKDT on April 25 (18:34 UTC on April 25). Thus, the Aviation Color Code and Alert Level are being reduced to GREEN/NORMAL. Brief explosive events at Korovin Volcano can occur without significant precursory unrest. Fallout of ash is unlikely to extend much beyond the upper flanks of the volcano.Possible ash clouds generated by such events are expected to be small and dissipate quickly. |
May 17th, 2025 22:34:01 EDT -0400 HVO Ofu-Olosega GREEN/NORMAL - No activity of concern for Ofu-Olosega. May 1, 2025 21:37 - No significant activity was detected at Ofu-Olosega Volcano during the past month. The USGS National Earthquake Information Center reported no earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater in the vicinity of the volcano. |
May 17th, 2025 22:34:01 EDT -0400 HVO Ta'u Island GREEN/NORMAL - No activity of concern for Taʻū Island May 1, 2025 21:37 - No significant activity was detected at Taʻū Volcano during the past month. The USGS National Earthquake Information Center reported no earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater in the vicinity of the volcano. Global Positioning System (GPS) instrument on Taʻū Island recorded no significant vertical deformation. |

May 17th, 2025 22:34:01 EDT -0400 HVO Mauna Loa GREEN/NORMAL - No significant changes at Mauna Loa in the past month; slow inflation of the summit continues. May 1, 2025 20:23 - Seismicity beneath Mauna Loa's summit and upper-elevation flanks has been low over the past month; approximately 76 small-magnitude earthquakes (most below M1.5) were detected, which is expected for the post-eruption phase of this volcano.Data from Global Positioning System (GPS) instruments on Mauna Loa continued to show only minor inflation near the summit as the volcano recovers from the 2022 eruption and magma replenishes the reservoir system. Gas and temperature data from a station on Mauna Loa's Southwest Rift Zone show that average H2S emissions are below about 5 ... |
May 17th, 2025 22:34:01 EDT -0400 HVO Kama'ehuakanaloa UNASSIGNED/UNASSIGNED - No activity of concern for Kamaʻehuakanaloa. May 1, 2025 20:23 - Seismicity rates were slightly elevated in both counts and magnitude at Kamaʻehuakanaloa volcano (formerly Lōʻihi Seamount).
